Research Team Expertise

Professor Andrew Long, Director, Health Care Practice R&D Unit at the University of Salford, will manage the research team. The team comprises the joint applicant (Sue Clarke), and additional research and secretarial / other support staff to be recruited to the project, for example, for the areas of translation, data entry, administrative co-ordination and additional statistical support.

Professor Long has an established track record of research and research management, in the fields of effectiveness, outcomes and human resources planning, in regional, national R&D and European funded projects. His particular interests in the area of CAM research centre on appropriate research methodologies to evaluate effectiveness and safety and the development of a measure of holistic practice to capture both the underlying philosophies of health and healing within CAM and the dynamic therapeutic relationship.

Sue Clarke, currently writing up her PhD on an evaluation of holistic approaches to cancer care, has extensive research experience in research in health and the CAM field. She is a research advisor to the Seagull Trust and to a voluntary group formed to support the provision of an integrated care package including a non-conventional cancer therapy; a founder member of the Alternative and Complementary Healthcare Research Network; and a committee member of Breast-UK and member of C4Ward.
