Aim and Objective

The general aim of the study is to enhance the evidence base about the safety and effectiveness of shiatsu as practised within Europe. It will document the effects and experience of shiatsu as practised and as perceived by receivers and practitioners.

The study has four objectives:

  1. To provide insight into the nature of the practice of shiatsu, from the perspective of practitioners and receivers
  2. To identify who uses shiatsu and for what presenting reasons
  3. To identify the range of effects in the short and longer term
  4. To enhance understanding of the contribution that shiatsu can make to the health and well-being of citizens and health care provision
